How We Treat Vein Disease
Vein disease progresses through six distinct stages, from surface-level changes to more serious conditions like ulcers and open wounds. As a team of vein specialists in Kansas City, Summit Vein Care matches each patient’s treatment to the stage and severity of their condition.
We use 3 in-office procedures to treat venous disease. Our board-certified providers perform each procedure and tailor it to the disease’s progression.
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
Depending on the severity of vein disease, we’ll start a treatment plan with EVLA. It targets the larger, deeper veins where venous disease originates, beginning at the great saphenous vein and working outward from there.
Your provider guides a small fiber into the affected vein under ultrasound imaging. Laser energy then seals the vein from the inside, and your body reroutes blood flow through nearby healthy veins naturally.
Tumescent anesthesia keeps you comfortable throughout. Each session runs about 45 minutes. We treat one leg at a time, and most patients complete between 1 and 4 sessions, depending on how far their disease has progressed. Most return to normal activity the following day with no downtime required. Our vein specialists in Kansas City have performed this procedure tens of thousands of times.
Endovenous Chemical Ablation (EVCA)
After EVLA, we move to EVCA to treat the smaller branch veins. Instead of laser energy, our providers inject Varithena—a chemical medicine that seals the vein closed from the inside.
Our team uses ultrasound to guide precise needle placement, giving providers a real-time view of the vein responding to treatment. Each session takes about 30 minutes, and we can provide lidocaine to keep you comfortable. We’ll treat one leg per appointment, and most patients need between 1 and 4 sessions.
Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy
For smaller veins requiring precision throughout the injection, we use ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. Our ultrasound tech works alongside the provider in real time, directing placement while the provider injects Asclera directly into the vein. The vein closes immediately and the body reabsorbs it gradually.
Sessions take 30 minutes, require no anesthesia, and carry no downtime. Most patients complete 1 to 3 sessions. At Summit Vein Care, your vein specialist in Kansas City may combine sclerotherapy with EVLA or EVCA to build a complete in-office treatment plan.
